Sue Ramirez: I dont look at work as chance to be famous

MANILA, Philippines — With her flourishing career and steady relationship, Sue Ramirez has every reason to be contented and happy at this point in her life.

“I’m very, very contented with everything that I have,” stated Sue in a virtual press conference for the upcoming Vivamax movie, How To Love Mr. Heartless. “I’m not sure if it’s a good or bad trait ba yung contentment, but I feel good and happy with everything that I’m getting.”

“Kung mabakante man ako sandali, magpapasalamat ako sa oras ng pahinga. Kung magkakaroon ako ng trabaho, magpapasalamat ako dahil ito na naman, I have the chance to show to the audience the things that I can do. By God’s grace, hindi naman po ako nababakante,” she added.

The Broken Marriage Vow actress, who has been receiving rave feedback for her performance in the series, is teamed up for the first time with her longtime pal Diego Loyzaga for the soon-to-be streamed romantic comedy-drama.

The premise of the movie, helmed by director Jason Paul Laxamana, is about Yanyan (Sue), a cheerful girl who falls in love with Blue (Diego), a young, handsome yet seemingly distant man. She assured us that we’ll see more of her on Vivamax.

Sue reiterated that she is “super contented with what I have right now” and that she is “in a good place right now in my life.”

“I don’t look at work as a chance to be famous or ano. I look at it kung papano siya dapat tingnan na trabaho yun. Hindi siya para sa kung ano man, but I love what I’m doing,” she explained.

According to Sue, she feels like she is in the highest moment of her career.

Sue plays Yanyan, a cheerful girl who falls in love with Blue (Diego Loyzaga), a young, handsome yet seemingly distant man in the upcoming Vivamax film How To Love Mr. Heartless.

“I look at that in that perspective in whatever career status that I had even in the past,” she said. “I always take everything that’s coming to me as the blessing that I’m ever getting. I have that kind of mindset. I don’t like to think na nag-bo-boom na yung career ko ngayon pa lang kasi hindi pa po.”

“I know that there are a lot things pa that I need to learn at madami pa dapat akong kakaining bigas to reach my goals and the things I want to achieve for myself,” she continued.

With that, she is “willing to learn” more to hone her craft. “I think that’s the most important trait that you should have as an actor,” she shared. “One should be willing to absorb sa lahat ng tao na nakakatrabaho mo, not only from your co-actors. I’m still very far from my end goal and I’m not claiming it just yet. Nagtatrabaho lang ako nang nagtatrabaho. Dire-diretso lang ako.”

Moreover, she expressed enthusiasm knowing that she will be working with Diego as her co-star in How To Love Mr. Heartless. “I don’t have any doubts,” she said. “I know that pagdating namin sa set, we would be comfortable with each other because we’ve known each other for a long time. Also, I know Diego’s mom, yung mga sisters niya, even Tita Shine (Sunshine Cruz).”

On what makes the movie interesting, direk Jason Paul said he wanted to create something for the younger audience to enjoy. The filmmaker was the one who also megged 100 Tula Para kay Stella, Between Maybes, Just a Stranger, To Love Some Buddy and Ang Henerasyong Sumuko sa Love.

“Personally, we saw na nagkaroon ng boom ng mga mature films, sexy films and there’s nothing wrong with that. In fact, way back 2013, I did a bold movie for Cinemalaya. Sa dami ng naglalabasan na ganun, I wanted to create something for teenagers, which the kids can also watch and para magkaroon din ng material na lumalabas in this time of the pandemic for them,” he detailed.

“What makes this different, I guess, (is) sa ganung context, na sa dami ng mga bold films na lumalabas, I want to make something that the family can enjoy, especially the younger audience,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sue shared that when it comes to love, just like in acting, she really exerts all efforts to make a relationship work. And the craziest thing she did for love was support the campaign of her current boyfriend Javi Benitez, mayor-elect of Victorias City in the province of Negros Occidental.

“When he was running for mayor, I really gave my full support. I think that’s the craziest thing that I ever had to do for love. Siyempre iba yun eh, may pandemic ngayon, i-immerse mo yung sarili mo sa madaming tao and really sacrifice your health and of course, all of your energy. May mga trabaho na nasagasaan pero really I willingly wanted to do it for him,” declared the 25-year-old actress.

As for her advice to those who are in a haste to be in a relationship, she said, “It will come to you. Just enjoy the time you have for yourself. You wouldn’t know when kayo ma-bu-busy. You have a lot of responsibility that you still need to do.”

“Before you commit to other people, know yourself very well first kasi hindi mo talaga fully ma-enjoy (yung relationship) kung hindi mo pa ganun kakilala ang sarili mo,” she concluded.

(How To Love Mr. Heartless will be streamed on June 17 exclusively on Vivamax).
