Greenleaf and showbiz stories that grabbed my attention
As we enter the second week of our Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), I’m sure we’re all hoping that by Friday, Aug. 20, Metro Manila will be placed under MGCQ (Modified General Community Quarantine) or whatever classification that is less strict than the one we are under today.
Hopefully, the labor force will be allowed to return to work, restaurants will be allowed to accept dine-in customers once again, and malls and stores will be open so that people can help spur the economy by spending.
While at home, I’ve been able to catch up on my reading and watching K-dramas and a new Netflix series that’s got me hooked, Greenleaf. Set in Memphis, it’s the story of the Greenleaf family that controls the mega church, Calvary Fellowship World Missions. Despite the strong faith of its members, the Greenleaf family has many scandalous secrets such as sibling rivalry, greed, and adultery, to name a few. The compelling drama series is produced by Oprah Winfrey and stars Lynn Whitfield, Merle Dandridge and Keith David, with Winfrey in a special guest appearance.
Aside from watching television, I’ve also been able to catch up on the latest showbiz happenings and intrigues. Here are some stories that grabbed my attention:
Angel Locsin and longtime beau Neil Arce finally tied the knot in civil rights on July 26 in front of Mayor Lino Cayetano in Taguig. The ceremony was witnessed by only a handful of friends and family, and both bride and groom were dressed casually in black jeans and white tops.
Angel and Neil were supposed to tie the knot last year on Nov. 8, but it was postponed because of the pandemic. They also planned to have their pre-nuptial pictorial in Oslo, Norway, but that too was cancelled. But love always wins in the end. Congratulations and best wishes to the newlyweds!
Sharon Cuneta is back in town after two months in the U.S.A. Sharon says that she went to the US after losing a Hollywood project due to a “false positive” COVID-19 test. She was all set to play the aunt of Fil-Am stand-up comedian Jo Koy in a movie, produced by Steven Spielberg.
Sharon is grateful that husband Sen. Kiko Pangilinan allowed her to go to the US to “lick her wounds” as the loss of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity understandably crushed her heart.
During the presscon of her movie Revirginized last Aug. 5, Sharon also revealed that she underwent breast reduction in the US to remove the skin and fat which developed after several cycles of gaining and losing weight. She also had a minor procedure for her deviated septum, which is a physical disorder of the nose that involves a displacement of the nasal septum. Thanks to the procedure, she can now breathe through both nostrils, thus making it easier for her to sing.
Bea Alonzo finally admitted to being in a relationship with Dominic Roque after months of speculation about their status. Bea recently confirmed in an interview on GMA that she had decided to keep mum about her love life until she was more certain about where the relationship with Dominic was going. Both Bea and Dominic were in the US for a month to celebrate his birthday and get some R&R before she starts shooting a movie with Alden Richards, produced by GMA Films, APT Entertainment and Viva Films.
Lastly, I couldn’t help but notice the pixie-cut hairdo Sarah Geronimo is sporting these days. It suits her small face and is the work of Celeste Tuviera, hairdresser to the stars par excellence. This is the shortest hair I’ve seen Sarah wear, and it shows the extra confidence she exudes as Mrs. Matteo Guidicelli!
