Director questions Piolo Pascual, Vilma Santos' anti-martial law stance
MANILA, Philippines — Kapamilya actor Piolo Pascual revealed that politics has nothing to do with his showbiz life.
In a recent online forum organized by Filipino actors' league Aktor and Dakila titled "Ganito kamo noon, ganito pa rin ba ngayon? Pelikula, Paniniil. Pagpalag," Piolo was asked by host Lourd de Veyra how his political stance changed by doing anti-Martial Law films.
"Sa social media recently maraming kumukuwestyon sa iyong political affiliation: 'Paano mo magagawa 'yun? E, ikaw ang gumanap na Jules Bartolome na aktibista sa 'Dekada 70'! Ang hirap ng balancing act sa paninindigan du'n," Lourd asked Piolo.
Piolo said his sincerity is important and all people have the right to voice out their opinions.
"I guess it’s important 'yung pagiging tao mo, 'yung sincerity mo, 'yung pagiging totoo mo. Lahat tayo, may boses tayo kahit anuman ang estado natin sa lipunan. May boses tayo na kailangang gamitin at obligasyon natin na gamitin 'yun,” Piolo said.
"So, ang sa akin, ang stance ko sa politics... Politics has got nothing to do with my showbiz life. Given this platform in this showbiz field, I’m using it to be positive. Kung anuman ang stand ko sa politics... hindi kasi ako politikong tao, e. Hindi ako 'yung tipong magsasalita about my stand as celebrity,” he added.
Piolo assured his fans that he will use his voice in politics in the right time.
"Siguro, iibahin ko 'yun, hindi ko gagamitin ang platform ko sa showbiz para gamitin sa pulitika. Kasi iba naman 'yung pagiging artista mo, e. Gagamitin ko ang boses ko sa tamang panahon at tamang pagkakataon."
Piolo was joined by Glaiza de Castro, Joel Lamangan, Ricky Lee, Lualhati Bautista and Vilma Santos in the online forum.
Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, director Jay Altarejos questioned the participation of Piolo and Vilma in the forum discussing martial law.
“Paano papalag sa paniniil ang isang VILMA SANTOS na bumoto sa TERROR LAW. Paano papalag ang isang PIOLO PASCUAL na isang certified DDS? Pagdating sa Martial Law at tahasang pagpatay ni Duterte sa mga inosentent tao, walang middle ground! Ito ay mali. Dapat tayo ay nasa panig ng taumbayan,” he wrote.
