Katy reveals pregnancy with Never Wore White sounds familiar

SOUNDS FAMILIAR - Baby A. Gil - The Philippine Star

Pop diva Katy Perry sings Never Wore White as her latest single. The song is about wanting to get married and getting it right. Fearful of what might happen but also excited, she goes, “Cause I’ve never worn white/ but I wanna get it right/ Yeah, I really wanna try with you/ No, I’ve never worn white/ but I’m standing here tonight/ cause I really want to say I do.”

The song, no doubt, refers to her engagement and future wedding to actor Orlando Bloom. Remember him as Legolas, the elf in Lord of the Rings? They got engaged on Feb. 14, last year and are set to get married this summer. Katy may indeed decide to wear white because she has never really worn a white dress to get married. Not even when she married the British comedian Russell Brand.

Katy married Russell, a then fast-rising star in 2010 after a whirlwind courtship and engagement. It was a lavish wedding that was held in India and even included elephants. They divorced two years later. After Katy uploaded Never Wore White on YouTube last Thursday, March 5, the internet was inundated with searches for pics of her wedding to Russell. Of course, those were made to check on her declaration that she never wore white.

That was when it was found out that no photos of her wedding were ever released to the public. This is just as well, given how the union ended. But news items about the event mentioned that Katy wore a gray wedding dress from Elie Saab. Not white.

So, she is telling the truth in her new song. She has indeed never worn white, but she will probably wear one now given how much she and Orlando seem to be in love. News have it though, that the couple have decided to postpone the wedding, which was supposed to be held in Japan, because of the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

No matter though, as how Katy feels these days brings a happy lilt to the uptempo pop ballad. See what she sings to close Never Wore White, “See us in sixty years with a full family tree/ give my blood, sweat and tears to reach our destiny/ Cause love is a minefield let’s take this war, baby, cause at the end of it all/ I choose you and you choose me. I do.”

Hints of the wedding that is to come is in the video of the song. It features Katy all aglow in a white dress and then sitting on a huge mountain of flowers. Then towards the end, while clad in a sheer top, she is shown gently caressing her baby bump. That is right, Katy is pregnant by Orlando. So, all you Katycats rejoice. Head kitty Katy is having a baby and she made the announcement through Never Wore White.

Katy’s baby is due later this year and she might just make the birth announcement together with the release of a new album. This is her follow-up to Witness which came out in 2017. She continues to appear as judge in the talent show American Idol with Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. Sad to say though, the show is not available anymore out here.
