Lil Nas X is top music nom at Kids’ Choice Awards
SOUNDS FAMILIAR - Baby A. Gil (The Philippine Star) - February 28, 2020 - 12:00am

Rapper Lil Nas X just keeps on reaping those rewards for the great job he did with his phenomenally viral and in the long run popular everywhere breakout single Old Town Road. And it has now turned out that the world’s favorite hip-hop cowboy is also big with the kiddies. The 20-year-old star just topped the nominees of the music category at the 33rd Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards with four noms.

In the latest news about more award-giving for accomplishments during the past year, Lil Nas X got call-outs for Favorite Male Artist, Favorite Song for Old Town Road, of course, Favorite Breakout New Artist and for Favorite Music Collaboration for Old Town Road with the legendary country music star Billy Ray Cyrus. Remember how they broke the record at Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart by staying in the No. 1 slot for a really long 19 weeks?

As of this writing, Old Town Road by Lil Nas X and Cyrus has already won the following: Grammy Awards, Best Performance by a Pop/ Duo or Group and Best Direction for the music video; Teen Choice Awards, Choice Song R&B and Hip Hop; MTV Awards, Best Song and Best Direction of the Music Video; Country Music Association Awards, Musical Event of the Year; Apple Music Awards, Song of the Year; BET Hip Hop Awards, Single of the Year and Best Collab by a Duo or Group; and American Music Awards, Favorite Rap or Hip Hop Song.

So will Lil Nas X be adding a Nickelodeon trophy or two to his collection come March 22 at the awards night which will be held at the Forum in Inglewood California? I hope so. I hope he keeps on winning. I hope he keeps making hits. Because his success continues to inspire so many young people trying to make it in this world against so many odds. Now, please note that Lil Nas X always puts up a most entertaining number during these awards shows.

So win or loose, I am looking forward to finding out what he will do for the very young Nickelodeon viewers. Besides, this is the only awards show where slime plays an important role. It will be really fun to see if Lil Nas X will get slimed a lot and which of the other nominees and winners will be slimed more. The Kids’ Choice Awards show will be aired live or taped across all of Nickelodeon’s international networks.
