Why Cruz and not Montano
Even if it has been explained by Sunshine Cruz as early as 2017 when her daughter Angelina signed up with Universal Records for the release of the girl’s first single, people still wonder why Angelina and her sisters Samantha and Chesca are using Cruz and not Montano, their dad Cesar’s surname.
Last week when mother and daughters signed a contract as brand ambassadors of Em-Core DotNet, one of the country’s premier direct-marketing companies specializing in nutraceuticals and other health and wellness products, the Cruzes’ manager Arnold Vegafria again clarified the non-issue.
“Actually, as a gesture of respect, I informed Cesar about it and he understood,” said Arnold.
In an interview with Boy Abunda’s Tonight show, Sunshine mentioned the cases of her Cruz relatives like Donna Cruz (now Mrs. Yong Larrazabal) and the brothers Rayver and Rodjun.
“Donna’s fraternal surname is Yrastorza while Rayver and Rodjun’s is Lustre. But they are using their maternal surname for showbiz.”
“The surname Cruz is associated with showbiz,” agreed Arnold, “kaya strong ang association.”
In the meantime, even as Angelina has made a first step into showbiz, her siblings are first limiting themselves to endorsements. School is priority. They are endorsing the company’s flagship product, 24 Alkaline-C and 24 Alka-White.
“I’m a firm believer in a holistic lifestyle that puts a high premium on diet and exercise, but it’s good to know that there are dietary supplements that can always give us that much-needed boost any time of day,” Sunshine spoke during the recent launch.
“I’ve heard a lot of miraculous testimonials from people who’ve used the products, so I’m very confident that we’re on the same page in terms of promoting better health and nutrition.”
Em-Core Dot Net president said, “I believe that if the product works, the business works. We want to be true to our mission of bringing affordable quality products for the whole family and offering a lucrative business opportunity for everyone.” (The other brand endorsers are 2019 Miss World Philippines Michelle Dee and David Licauco, both also managed by Arnold’s ALV Productions.)
Sunshine is currently part of ABS-CBN’s primetime teleserye Love Thy Woman where she stars with Kim Chiu and Xian Lim. Her ongoing movie projects include Regal Films’ My Stepmother’s Lover and The Heiress (currently showing nationwide, which also stars Maricel Soriano, Janella Salvador and McCoy de Leon).
Aside from being a recording artist, Angelina is also a Bench endorser. Sam and Chesca are still finishing their studies at La Salle Zobel.
