Nadine Lustre quits movie with Aga Muhlach; Bela Padilla eyed as replacement
MANILA, Philippines — Singer-actress Nadine Lustre has backed out of her upcoming movie project with actor Aga Muhlach due to medical reasons.
According to an ABS-CBN News report, Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) official Noel Ferrer has confirmed that Viva Films requested to replace Nadine as Muhlach’s co-star in the upcoming Filipino version of the hit Korean movie, “Miracle in Cell No. 7.”
“Miss Lustre has begged off the project due to medical concerns and her resulting inability to perform her duties as an actress during the shoot up to the promotion of the film,” Viva co-founder Vincent Del Rosario said in a letter he wrote for the MMFF committee.
MMFF has reportedly approved Bela Padilla as replacement for Nadine.
“We believe that Bela Padilla is an excellent actress and a bankable star and she will significantly contribute to the film’s artistry and commercial success,” MMFF said in a statement.
“Miracle in Cell No. 7” is among the first four entries to enter this year’s MMFF, along with “Mission Unstapabol: The Don Identity,” “K(ampon) and “Momolland.”
The film is a remake of the 2013 Korean blockbuster about an imprisoned mentally-ill man whose co-detainees would help him see his daughter by smuggling her into the prison.
Early this month, Viva declared that Aga and Nadine will headline the remake, with Joel Torre, JC Santos and Arjo Atayde as members of the cast.
