MANILA, Philippines — In a recent speech in Davao City, Pres. Rodrigo Duterte shared to the audience what he told his son Baste Duterte.

“Kita ra ba nako si, kami ni, didto sa party sa Malacañang. 'Di ka kaila sa iyang bana. Nagpatubo og bungot, nagpataas og buhok (I saw him [John Lloyd Cruz] in a party in Malacañang. You cannot recognize him anymore. He grew a moustache and a beard, made his hair grow longer," he said.

Baste, who was just elected as Davao City vice mayor, was the ex-boyfriend of John Lloyd’s partner, Ellen Adarna.

"Pero tinuod ha? Walay binuang, usa sa mga nakit-an nako nga guwapa nga tisay nga Pilipina. Pero walay binuang, gamay lang nga babae, pero kanang porma sa lawas, gwapo kayo (But the truth is, no kidding, she [Ellen] is one of the most beautiful fair-skinned Filipinas I’ve ever seen. Petite but sexy," the president enthused.

Vhong Navarro, who was recently with Duterte, Cruz and other celebrities and politicians in a thanksgiving dinner the president and his partner Honeylet Avanceña hosted in Malacañang Palace, shared to the media what he thinks about Cruz’s new look.

“Respetuhin natin kung ano ‘yung gusto n’yang hitsura, kasi me kanya-kanya tayo (na gusto),” Vhong said of Cruz’s transformation from clean-shaven to bearded and unkempt.

“Like ako, ito gusto ko, ‘yung mag-guguhit dito ng buhok. Eh ‘yun ang gusto n’ya, magpahaba ng buhok, respetuhin mo na,” asserted the “It’s Showtime” host during the recent press conference of “Home Sweetie Home: Extra Sweet.”

Vhong is among the newcomers in the show, where John Lloyd used to be in the lead together with Toni Gonzaga.

"Home Sweetie Home: Extra Sweet" airs every Saturday at 6:45 p.m., right after “TV Patrol.” — Video by Erwin Cagadas Jr.
