Alden Richards, Kathryn Bernardo to star in new Cathy Garcia-Molina movie

MANILA, Philippines — Local film studio Star Cinema has announced on Tuesday that Kapamilya actress Kathryn Bernardo and Kapuso actor Alden Richards will team up in the big screen. 

The movie will be directed by blockbuster director Cathy Garcia-Molina and will be released this year. 

Star Cinema posted on its Facebook page photos of Kathryn, Alden, Garcia-Molina and Star Cinema managing director Olive Lamasan.

Garcia-Molina said she immediately accepted the project upon learning that Kathryn and Alden were cast to be in it.

"I like the idea na gagawa ng bagong kwento and bagong combination. It's exciting! The story is about two strangers meeting and parang strangers talaga sila in real life," the director said, as cited in ABS-CBN Star Cinema's YouTube video.

The director revealed Alden and Kathryn's pairing was Lamasan's idea and that the film will be shot in Hong Kong.

"[It's] a story about mga kabataan, mga millennials na new OFWs. It's a romance drama pero hindi mawawala 'yung sundot ng comedy. Hindi tayo luhaan," she shared.

In the same video, Alden said he is excited to work with Kathryn and Direk Cathy on his first ever Star Cinema project.

"'Yung thought na Star Cinema, tapos si Kathryn ang makakapareha ko, tapos si Direk Cathy, parang total package na 'to. Wala na kong mahihiling pa. Sobrang saya ko na I was given the chance to be here," he remarked.

"Kinakabahan ako and nae-excite ako kung paano kaming dalawa. For sure I am very happy and nervous and excited," noted Kathryn.

Kathryn and Alden are part of leading love teams in the country. Kathryn makes half of the KathNiel love team with Daniel Padilla, while Alden is the other half of AlDub with Maine Mendoza. 

Fans of both celebrities are excited for the movie.
