Catriona bares what Demi-Leigh whispered during Miss Universe coronation
MANILA, Philippines— Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray on Wednesday revealed what her predecessor Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters whispered to her during the pageant coronation last month.
In an interview with New York City’s live interview series “Build Series,” Catriona revealed that Demi-Leigh’s message was not so serious.
She recalled that Demi-Leigh just advised her of the fitting of the crown.
“‘It's a little bit loose so be careful [so] it doesn’t fall off.’” Catriona quoted Demi-Leigh as saying while referring to the Mikimoto crown transferred to her.
“It was practical as that,” she added.
Demi-Leigh of South Africa crowned Catriona as the 67th Miss Universe last December 17 in Thailand’s capital. She passed on the iconic phoenix crown bearing over 100 pearls, signifying power, status and beauty to the Philippines' fourth Miss Universe.
The luxurious headpiece is designed by former official jeweler of Miss Universe, Mikimoto & Co., Ltd. It is estimated to cost around $250,000 or P12.5 million.
