Angel Jones hits 'fake stories' amid son Tony Labrusca's airport controversy

MANILA, Philippines — Former Kulay band member Angel Jones expressed her dismay at people spreading fake stories online amid the recent controversy on her son Kapamilya actor Tony Labrusca's confrontation with immigration officers.

“I’m laughing at all the misinformed people spreading hate and fake stories as if they were there,” Angel wrote on her personal Twitter account.

“Thank you for all the PR! Underdog stories always end the best,” she added.

At the height of the controversy, Angel also tweeted: “Everyone will always have something to say no matter what you do. Can’t please them all.”

“It’s sad that people love fake news and enjoy hating people that do well,” she wrote in another tweet.

In the same thread, Angel also reacted to rumors about Tony’s sexuality being spread online.

“That’s what happens when you’re at the top. They like to desperately tear you down. Sad but true,” she answered after someone commented about photos being shared online saying Tony was with his alleged boyfriend during the incident at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Tony is allegedly in a relationship with fellow Kapamilya actor Alex Diaz, who was with him at NAIA Terminal 1 when the confrontation between the “Glorious” star and immigration officers broke out. After the incident, Diaz also defended his friend on Twitter.

Filmmaker and talent manager Chris Cahilig posted a screenshot of his conversation with Tony about the issue.

“Just because we’re in the same flight we’re together na? That’s so low. Why can’t people see the truth that we’re just friends and his tita even made sure we got the same flight para may kasama kami pauwi,” Tony said in the exchange with the filmmaker.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Tony apologized for what happened at the airport.

“It was very upsetting for me. And I’m sorry that I somehow took my frustrations out on the officer. But never did I call anyone stupid, nor an idiot, much less brag about being a celebrity,” he said.

“I know for a fact that the officer is merely doing her job. My biggest mistake perhaps was letting my emotions get the better of me and again I’m sorry,” he added.
