What are the odds? Internet awed that gowns worn by Filipina Miss Universe winners match flag colors

MANILA, Philippines (Updated Dec. 18, 2018, 9:44 a.m.) — With euphoria over Catriona Gray's win as Miss Universe 2018, many online pointed out the happy coincidence that the long gowns worn by all four winning Philippine queens in the pageant constitute the colors of the Philippine flag.

Photos were posted online showing Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz, Miss Universe 1973 Margie Moran, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach and Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray wearing yellow, white, blue and red gowns, respectively.

However, Gloria wore the yellow gowns posted on social media during her reign and not her coronation. One photo of her in a yellow gown was used for the cover of the Miss Universe official souvenir program in 1970.

Photos of the three other Filipina Miss Universe queens, on the other hand, were taken when they were crowned.
