MANILA, Philippines — “Catriona Magnayon Gray, Philippines!”
Miss Universe Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray was the first in her batch to introduce herself during the pageant’s preliminary competition opening in Impact Arena, Bangkok, Thailand on December 13.

The opening number outfits were by American designer Sherri Hill, who tapped Catriona to become one of her models for her spring 2019 fashion show at the recent New York Fashion Week.

Wearing a shimmering sheer silver and black halter mini dress, Catriona was among those that got the loudest cheer from the crowd.
During the swimsuit competition, the candidates wore Sirivannavari Bangkok creations, and Catriona was in a hot pink asymmetrical swimsuit, which she paraded with flips from her long straight hair.

It was during the swimsuit round that she debuted her much-awaited signature “lava walk,” which some pageant fans link to Mount Mayon, an active volcano and a famous landmark in her hometown, Albay, Bicol.

“Philippines is a former martial artist, who earned a black belt when she was 12 years old. Now 24, this fashion model and singer has raised funds for various charities through benefit concerts in her country and abroad,” one of the pageant’s Thai hosts said as a description for Gray, as she marched in her swimsuit.
The Filipino-Australian Gray competes with 92 other contenders for the Miss Universe 2018 crown to be decided on December 17 in Bangkok, Thailand.
