Curtain-raisers:

Perfect Timing. ABS-CBN couldn’t have come up with a better and more effective promo for FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano than the headline-grabbing issue raised by the Philippine National Police (PNP) against the Coco Martin starrer that exposes police corruption, with Coco’s good-cop character as the police’s saving grace. The brouhaha erupted on the day the “kabilang network” (GMA) was heralding the start of its new series Cain at Abel topbilling Dingdong Dantes and Dennis Trillo, which is pitted against the top-rating, long-running (three years and extended until 2019) Probinsyano. That’s stealing the thunder… and how!!!...without really trying. The issue was resolved without any damage to either the PNP or ABS-CBN.

Lover sa Dilim. It refers to a lover whose identity is kept under wraps for one reason (privacy) or another (career risk). Two actors (now both happily married to somebody else) had “babae sa dilim” before they made public the identity of their new girlfriends. Both their “babae sa dilim” are now married to foreigners, one of them gave birth a few months ago and the other any week now. Here’s the rub: a young actor is said to have his own “lalaki sa dilim” (a good-looking foreigner). If you look at him closely in his soap, they say that you can tell what his sexuality is.

Food for Thought. I just remember this: in one of the three exclusive interviews with The STAR, Catholic Hollywood actor Liam Neeson revealed that he would start his day by reciting The Lord’s Prayer. Why not follow his example? Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Ten more inductees are scheduled to be immortalized on the Walk Of Fame (WOF, a brainchild of German “Kuya Germs” Moreno, the late Master Showman) in Eastwood, Libis, Quezon City on Dec. 10. They are:

• Marichu “Manay Ichu” Maceda and her dad, Dr. Jose Perez, beside each other on their respective stars;

• Rico Hizon (of BBC), who is flying from Singapore (where he is based) to accept the honor;

• James Reid and Julia Barretto (instead of Nadine Lustre and Joshua Garcia who couldn’t give the WOF organizers a schedule).

• Director Chito Roño;

• Vhong Navarro;

• Ken Chan;

• Derek Ramsay; and

• 2015 Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach.

It’s the 13th year of Walk Of Fame. Invited guest of honor is senatoriable Bong Go.

“We have the least number of stars this year compared to the past years,” said WOF head Federico Moreno who took over from his dad Kuya Germs. “Only 10 this year to make the event more intimate.”

Beau Singson Villanueva all set for the Universe

2018 Mrs. Philippines Finest Woman Universe Beau Singson Villanueva during her send-off the other day, holding ‘good luck’ bouquets from Buds and Bows (at Unit 104 Cecileville Building 3, #670 Tandang Sora Avenue, Quezon City. For orders, call 0917-1504995 or landline 618-5855; Instagram @BudsAnd BowsPh). Inset: 2019 Mrs. Philippines Finest Woman Universe Patricia Javier.

Barely two weeks before 2018 Miss Universe Philippines Catriona Grey competes with more than 90 expected contestants from around the “universe” on Dec. 17 in Thailand, 2018 Mrs. Philippines Finest Woman Universe Beau Singson Villanueva will do the same against 88 aspirants (all married) from the same number of countries in the 41st Mrs. Universe pageant in Cebu on Dec. 8.

“No Filipina has won or finished as a runner-up so far,” Beau told the media during her send-off the other day at the Hotel Rembrandt in Quezon City. “The Philippines has been competing in the pageant for 10 years now. I will do my best to be the first to win the crown for our country.”

Born to parents from Iloilo and Ilocos, Beau with her French husband and their three children live in Sydney. She holds a Business degree and heads her own business.

Asked if she’s neither “stressed” nor “pressured” because the pageant is being held here, Beau said, “I can handle it.”

The pageant’s advocacy is to protect women against violence and wellness. Sometime in August next year, 2019 Mrs. Philippines Finest Woman Universe Patricia Javier will compete in the Mrs. Universe pageant in Europe.

Vice Ganda’s own store

Vice Ganda at the inauguration of his Vice Cosmetics Flagship store in Market! Market!

Two Saturdays ago, Vice Ganda’s Vice Cosmetics Flagship store was formally opened at the ground floor of Market! Market! in Taguig City.

Vice launched his own line of cosmetics last year, available at kiosks and Watsons outlets. Business is good and Team Vice is planning to go into international distribution.

Vice himself uses his products.

“I play around with the shades of (my) lipsticks,” he said. “I mixed the severe, the venom, the chukchak, the hayabayabayu…pinagsasama-sama ko sila. I mix-mix three shades when I appear in It’s Showtime.”
