Keeping that Miss U figure

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo - The Philippine Star
Keeping that Miss U figure
Body Talk with Pia Wurtzbach, the Ginebra Calendar Girl 2019

Is it hard to maintain that Miss Universe figure?

‘Hmmm, I don’t think it’s hard but it’s challenging. If you make it part of your lifestyle, though, to like work out and eat healthy, I don’t think it’s hard.’

I bet you would get drunk faster not by downing glasses of gin but simply by looking at Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach’s sexy photos marking the 12 months of year 2019 as Ginebra San Miguel Calendar Girl.

It’s body language at its most eloquent and all Pia had to do during the calendar’s unveiling at the ballroom of a five-star hotel at BGC was stand there and smile, without answering questions about her personal life especially the hot item about the rumored “love triangle” involving her, Bea Alonzo and Gerald Anderson spawned by Pia and Gerald’s, ehem, “closeness” on the set.

When Bea appeared with First Love co-star Aga Muhlach on Gandang Gabi Vice (GGV), host Vice Ganda asked Bea about it and Bea replied, “Anyare?” (millennial word for anong nangyari, what happened?) and fans were convinced that that said it all. So much meaning in so few words.

This Body Talk refrains from intruding into Pia’s private space (not even a veiled inquiry into what’s up between her and boyfriend Marlon Stockinger).

Is it hard to maintain that Miss Universe figure?

“Hmmm, I don’t think it’s hard but it’s challenging. If you make it part of your lifestyle, though, to like work out and eat healthy, I don’t think it’s hard.”

Your body looks perfect, so did you make further preparation for the Ginebra pictorial?

“Yeah, I did have to further prepare for the shoot because it had been a while since I did a swimsuit photo shoot. It’s the first time I’m doing this outside of the beauty-pageant scene. They gave me enough time, so I’m here…this is it!”

What kind of diet do you follow?

“A lot of people probably won’t believe it but I eat anything that I want…in moderation. I just let my trainer know what I am eating. I don’t deprive myself of, you know, the little treats that I want. I make sure that I still enjoy food.”

What’s usually for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

“For breakfast, my favorite is eggs on toast with some butter or apricot marmalade on it. That’s like my go-to breakfast. If it’s in season, I want an avocado toast to go with it as well. For lunch, I’d go for some steamed or roasted chicken, and maybe with a whole-green salad. For dinner, something similar, or maybe I switch it a bit and have fish. I’m not really strict with it. If I want some dessert as well at the end of the day, I’ll have a bite of that, too.”

Any snacks between meals?

“Ah, almonds which I carry in my bag, or protein bar. A little treat here and there.”

How much water do you take per day?

“Well, the recommended amount is eight glasses a day. But it depends. If I’m working out, I’d probably take more than that. I try to remind myself to drink a lot of water every day.”

Coffee, tea or soft drinks?

“Well, I am a coffee drinker. Tea, not so much. Soft drinks, just in moderation lang. So…coffee!”

Are you taking any vitamins or supplements?

“I don’t take any vitamins or supplements. I take the nutrients from natural sources like food.”

Favorite comfort food?

“I really love Italian food, so some pasta or pizza.”

Any health regimen that you practice?

“I’m really into fitness right now so whenever I am stressed or I just want some me-time, I hit the gym. I never thought I would say this…that really, working out is my way of de-stressing…but it’s true. It helps in making me feel good.”

What workout do you do and how often do you do it?

“I try to go to the gym every day. I don’t push myself too hard; I do it at a comfortable pace. I do cardio and weights. If there’s time, I join a yoga class or a Pilates class.”

How much sleep do you get per night?

“I try to get eight hours per night. That’s important because your recovery is just as important as your workout. So if you work out hard, you really need enough sleep. So I have to make time for my beauty sleep.”

Favorite sleepwear?

“Anything that I’m wearing as long as it’s comfortable. I’m not too picky with whatever I wear to bed.”

Do you snore?

“Not that I know of.”

Do you sleepwalk?

“Hmmm, I don’t think so. I haven’t heard any stories from my family or friends that I sleepwalk.”

Do you talk in your sleep?

“No, I don’t.”

Last thing that you do before you go to sleep?

“I check my phone, then I set the alarm.”

First thing that you do as soon as you wake up?

“I check my phone and turn off the alarm.”

How do you unwind?

“As I’ve just said, I work out. I sweat it out and I’m thinking while I’m lifting weights or jogging or whatever. It helps me keep my balance.”

Favorite city?

“My favorite city will always be New York. It will always be a special city for me. But a few months ago, I spent almost a week in L.A. and I fell in love with it. So if ever I have to hide, it’s going to be in L.A.”

Three men that you find sexy?

“Tom Hardy, Brad Pitt and Seth Rogen.”
