MANILA, Philippines — Miss Universe Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray said it is important to speak up about stopping the stigma surrounding HIV-AIDS and to create awareness for it.

In a recent interview with the media at the signing of “Paris Declaration to Fast-track Cities: Ending the AIDS Epidemic” in SM Aura in Taguig City, Catriona told HIV-infected persons: “You know it doesn’t define your life, it doesn’t define who you are or where you’re going in your life.”

“There is treatment, there is support and there are individuals out there and communities where you can feel accepted, loved and that you belong. And there’s no need to feel alienated, there’s no need to feel that your life will be over,” she added.

For the Philippine representative at Miss Universe 2018, life should go on for HIV-infected people.

“Just take your medication and also go live your life the way it should.”

She also encouraged the public to support the patients and not to condemn them with their disease.

“I feel that I would love to urge all to really be that change for someone else that may be struggling, that may feel scared or bounded by fear. Be that catalyst for them, be that person that reaches out for them. This is how we help each other. This is how we make the world change.”
