AnneKulit back at the Big Dome

SOUNDS FAMILIAR - Baby A. Gil - The Philippine Star
AnneKulit back at the Big Dome
AnneKulit, Promise, Last Na ‘to! will mainly showcase Anne Curtis, not just as a singer but also as a total performer.

The Anne is back. Remember her? Seven years ago, she was this pipette who courageously mounted the Araneta Coliseum stage and sang with all her might. Just like Regine Velasquez does. It was just too bad that everybody turned up to watch Annebisyosa: The Other Concert on Jan. 28, 2011, and thereby encouraged her in her pursuit of singing fame. Why she even recorded an album, also titled Annebisyosa, of course. Hush up the news, that album became a big seller. Oh and she went on the road with Annebisyosa and everybody loved her in that tour.

It was no wonder than that three years later on May 16, 2014, this singing Anne turned up again and rightly billed herself as Annekapal in The Forbidden Concert. Of course, the Big Dome was once again packed. Why not, Miss Annekapal told everybody she would sing opera and she did just that. Mind you she paraded a number of magnificent sets and costumes. Not only that, Annekapal swung from the rafters and got herself drenched to sing Basang basa Sa Ulan. She was such a darling throughout that once again she took AnneKapal, The Forbidden Concert on the road with much success. Too bad, there was no album on sale at the lobby. That would have sold a lot, too.

The lovable Anne Curtis is Annebisyosa and AnneKapal. She is one of those girls who will try anything and will be good at anything. And that has pretty much characterized her career these past 20 years. Remember her as the princess with the Australian accent in Peque Gallaga’s Magic Kingdom 20 or so years ago? She went through tweetums teenage roles, played a hunchback, a mermaid, a fairy and did the glamorous screen goddess bit in both movies and television. She became a comedienne and TV host in great demand. She became a top product endorser and an IT girl, a major influencer on the web. But everybody agreed that there was one thing she could not do. Unlike most of the big female stars, you know, Sharon Cuneta, Regine Velasquez, Sarah Geronimo, etc. in local show business, Anne cannot sing.

But tell this intrepid girl there is something she cannot do and you will have a problem. She does not understand the word “can’t.” Besides, she really loves to sing. She may not sound like Regine or Sarah but she can pretend she does. And that was what she did. True to her tag of “Pursuer of Dreams,” Anne went into singing, big time. Her voice became the butt of jokes but she remained totally uncaring of what people would say. In fact, she was so lovable a singer that fans came to love her all the more. And that was how Annebisyosa and AnneKapal were born. And have you heard the news? Anne has not stopped. Those two are getting a sister whom we will soon meet. Anne is taking Annekulit to the Araneta Coliseum on Aug. 18.

Titled AnneKulit, Promise, Last Na ‘to!, the concert is planned as the biggest ever in Anne’s musical career. This year, after all, marks her 21st anniversary in show business and she intends to celebrate big. Besides her career and private life are both at an all-time high nowadays. Sid And Aya, her film that also stars Dingdong Dantes, is not only critically-acclaimed, it is also on top of the box office. She has another one coming up, the action drama, Buy Bust, directed by Erik Matti. Best of all, she is now happily married to her long-time boyfriend Ewan Heussaff of Fat Kid fame.

There will be lots of guests in AnneKulit, but the show will mainly showcase Anne, not just as a singer but also as a total performer. Watch out for lots of songs, dancing, funny, heartwarming moments and daring like you have never seen before. And as all of us have witnessed in Annebisyosa and AnneKapal, Anne always delivers on her promises.

Director is Paul Basinillo with Louie Ocampo as musical director and Teacher Georcelle as dance director.
