WATCH: Catriona Gray on allegedly not deserving Best in Swimsuit
MANILA, Philippines — “Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. I’m just happy to be given the opportunity and I’ll give my best.”
That was the simple answer Miss Philippines Universe 2018 Catriona Elisa Gray gave when recently asked by Philstar.com about her reaction to beauty queens Maggie Wilson and Bea Rose Santiago’s social media claims that she should not have won Best in Swimsuit during the recent Binibining Pilipinas 2018 coronation night.
Wilson, who was hailed Binibining Pilipinas World 2007, said in a Facebook post: "Huh, best in swimsuit? Paano? I mean, pretty face but definitely not the best body out there."
Santiago, Miss International 2013, agreed with Wilson, saying on Twitter: “#BbPilipinas2018 @RealBbPilipinas @wilsonmaggie it should not be all about the face.”
Due to these comments, the two beauty queens were bashed on social media.
"Getting so much hate for a comment I made about Catriona Gray. I didn't agree with her being awarded best in swimsuit. I stand by that. I also do think she's beautiful and deserves her Miss Universe-Philippines win for overall performance. Did you forget I also wrote that? Or did you choose to ignore and neglect to read, screencap and share that part just so you have a 'reason' to hate?" Wilson said in an Instagram story.
“Why don't you ask her what she thinks? I'm sure she won't condone how nasty you're all being. An opinion is different from bashing,” she added.
To help stop the bashing, Gray told her fans on Instagram: "Hey, my loves. I've been seeing some comments online regarding the comments of two of our beauty queens and their opinions on the best in swimsuit award in BBP2018.”
"Firstly, everyone is entitled to their own opinion,” she said. “Let's not be too overly sensitive. As I've said before, debating and stating your own opinion is okay, but let's not retaliate with negativity.” — Video by Kat Leandicho
