With Mother’s Day happening this weekend, we can expect restaurants and hotel outlets everywhere to do brisk business. It’s tradition all over the world to treat mothers out to a good meal, give them flowers and shower them with gifts to make them feel special.

While “grand gestures” always make an impact, it’s actually the little, everyday things that moms treasure — time spent with their kids doing something as mundane as binge-watching at home or going on a movie date or to an amusement center.

Comedy Queen Ai-Ai de las Alas used to travel a lot with sons Sancho, Nicolo, Seth and daughter Sophia in tow when they were younger. “Nung maliit sila, sa Boracay naman kami. Masaya sila pag kasama nila ako parati and sanay sila nung bata sila na may family day kami,” Ai-Ai said.

Yasmien Kurdi goes on movie dates with her daughter Ayesha. Both movie fans, they enjoy watching the same movie several times. “I guess it’s just their thing; whenever they like something they just want to keep on watching it over and over again. For my part, I don’t have to worry about the content of the movie. Masaya naman na kami sa ganung bonding,” Yasmien said.

A trip to their favorite entertainment and educational activity center is always a treat for Diana Zubiri’s kids King and Aliyah. “We love going to Kidzoona as the kids have so much energy. This is definitely the place to bring them, and they love it. It also makes us as parents feel like kids again so everybody wins,” Diana shared.

For other Kapuso moms, however, downtime at home is one of their favorite shared activities with their children.

“My favorite bonding activity with Jazz is simply just lying in bed with him on a Sunday morning,” said The Cure lead star Jennylyn Mercado. “It’s perfect because wala akong work at siya walang pasok so it really is the time that we get to talk and hug.”

Katrina Halili and her daughter Katie enjoy videoke. “She enjoys singing. Favorite niyang kinakanta ay My Way, Count On Me and O-La-Di, Ob-La-Da... mga ganyan. Aside from that, my favorite bonding time also with her is yung kulitan bago kami matulog.”

Getting ready for bedtime is also a treasured activity for sexy mom LJ Reyes and her son Aki. “It’s the time I feel closest to him. We talk for a long time on how his day went and mine, or reminisce about the past when he was still a baby. He likes it when I tell him how he was as a baby. And we talk about a whole bunch of stuff,” LJ shared.

Chika Minute host Iya Villania-Arellano loves spending time with her son Primo at home. “My favorite bonding activity with him is actually any downtime at home because he is comfortable, we can be silly, and alam na niya kung saan siya pupunta kapag gutom siya, kapag nauuhaw siya.”

“He knows where the pantry is. Alam niya saan yung banyo. He can be comfortable and just be himself; I like seeing him that way. So that’s my favorite bonding time with Primo, just being at home with him,” Iya added.

These Kapuso moms know love when they see it. It doesn’t always have to be big and showy. It’s the quiet times spent with their children that truly make a mark. Happy Mother’s Day to all our loving moms!
