WATCH: Katy Perry surprises graduating Filipino fan

MANILA, Philippines — Graduation just got sweeter for a college student, who wore his toga to Katy Perry’s Manila concert on Monday night, after the American pop star called him onstage on his graduation eve.

To mark her first hit “I Kissed a Girl,” it has been Perry’s tradition to kiss someone at her every concert before she sings the song. Last night, during that much-awaited segment, she surprised everyone when she picked a toga-wearing male college student to join her onstage.

“You look so… educated!” Katy told the teenager, who introduced himself simply as "Josh."

She then asked why he was wearing a toga, with Perry’s name and tour logos on them, and Josh said that it was because he will be graduating the next day.

While onstage, Katy asked the student to teach her the Tagalog words for “I’m happy to be here” and “quiet” since the audience got so excited with Katy’s encounter with the student. The teenager was speechless and shy the whole time, and even pretending to faint onstage at some point.

But instead of kissing the guy, who might be a minor because he is still a student, Katy generously allowed him to take selfies with her to fill his mobile phone’s memory with the unforgettable encounter.

She then proceeded with rendering her first hit.

The audience waited the entire night for Katy to randomly kiss someone from the audience as she used to in other concert stops and in singing contest “American Idol,” where she is a judge, but she didn’t.

During her last Manila concert in 2012, Katy chose to kiss former “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate Ivan Dorschner from the audience. Dorschner has since starred in the GMA series “Meant To Be” with Barbie Forteza, Ken Chan, Addy Raj and Jak Roberto.
