Filipino designs take centerstage at Miss Universe 2017

MANILA, Philippines — Rachel Peters, Philippines' bet at Miss Universe, was ravishing in her Val Taguba gold-flecked, bustier gown. Her flawless performance in that round, plus her stunning turn at the swimsuit portion, all but assured her spot among the Top 16 on finals night on November 26 at the Axis Theater at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.

 

But Taguba is not the only Filipino designer getting impressive notices for his evening gown creation. Another world-class couturier helping three of the delegates move on the finals is Leo Almodal.

 

Almodal is responsible for the gorgeous gown of Miss Guam Myana Welch, Miss Japan Momoko Abe and Miss Great Britain Anna Maria Burdzy. The designer celebrated in a Facebook post: “The Fierce, The Beautiful, The Elegant: Leo Almodal Haute Couture Muses in the Miss Universe preliminary evening gown competition! Cheering for these beautiful women! God bless!”

 

Burdzy, who is gaining fans for her beauty and brains, gushed about her red and nude gown: "Up close with my dress. So glad my idea came to life by Leo Almodal and I was able to wear such an original dress on an incredible night.”

 

According to reliable sources, Miss Singapore Manuela Bruntraeger ostensibly borrowed from another Filipino couturier. Miss Russia Ksenia Alexandrova was also supposed to wear another immaculate creation by yet another amazing Filipino designer.

 

Reigning Miss Universe Iris Mittenaere is also rumored to be wearing a scintillating number when she turns over her crown.

 

Finals judge Pia Wurtzbach, Miss Universe 2015, will also be sure to be clad in Philippine couture, so the obvious big winner in at the 66th Miss Universe is the Filipino designer!
