What scared Beauty
Beauty Gonzalez on her latest Kapamilya teleserye Pusong Ligaw: ‘I’m thankful because there are still a lot who believe in my talent. I also thank ABS-CBN for putting its trust in me. You know, I almost lost my confidence that I could still go back to acting.’

When Beauty Gonzalez learned that she was pregnant over a year ago, she quit in the drama series she was starring in pronto. That time, she was at the peak of her career, and so the dreadful thought of losing a spot in showbiz crossed her mind.

“I got really scared when I got pregnant because projects then were coming one after the other. From Dream Dad to Ningning, and then I also had Walang Iwanan. I was doing two soaps at that time and then, I got pregnant, oh, my gosh,” recalled Beauty in a recent media gathering for Star Creatives’ Pusong Ligaw. “I think every church in every country that I had visited in Europe, I had the same fervent prayer, I said, ‘Lord, I want to return (in showbiz). I want to prove to everyone na hindi ako sayang and I really want to prove them wrong.’”

She added, “And I’m thankful because there are still a lot who believe in my talent including my manager Arnold Vegafria. I also thank ABS-CBN for putting its trust in me. You know, I almost lost my confidence that I could still go back to acting. Antagal ko ring nawala, for a year.”

Beauty also appreciated how Norman Crisologo, her art curator-fiancé and dad of her daughter Olivia Ines, supported her goal of making a showbiz comeback. “At buti na lang din mabait ako sa lahat ng tao.”

Her harmonious working relationship with people — from the stars to the production team down to utility personnel — definitely helped “because I think if you are pleasant with everybody na kahit sino pa yan, like sa utility, maaalala ka nila. So, thank you,” she said.

Beauty is now part of Pusong Ligaw as Tessa, one of the afternoon series’ main characters. She said that it is her biggest dramatic acting role to date. “This is my first lead role in a drama show and it is very much different from the characters I’ve portrayed in the past — mga pa-tweetums and best friend roles. I’ve been through a lot here and I hope you will see that I can also do drama,” said Beauty who never failed to acknowledge the support of Pusong Ligaw directors GB Sampedro, Henry King Quitain and Elfren Vibar.

In Pusong Ligaw, Beauty’s character Tessa and her best friend Marga (Bianca King) grew up together in the province. Both dream to be successful individuals someday. The former wants to be a fashion designer, while the latter wishes to be a beauty queen. The two promise to stick together but not until Marga betrayed Tessa.

If and when the 25-year-old actress finds herself in the same dilemma of her character, she said that she will not just turn into a beast but “super beast because it’s definitely heartbreaking to be in that situation where you catch your best friend having an affair with your man.”

Asked if there was a time when her heart went astray, Beauty said she couldn’t remember since her mom is always there to guide her and give pieces of advice. She even quipped, “I had several relationships pero sila ‘yung naligaw, ‘di ako.”

Kidding-aside, Beauty said that she is lucky to have a fiancé who never gets tired of supporting her every endeavor.

Their wedding will happen this year with family, relatives and only few close friends invited to the occasion. “It will be a very intimate wedding which will be held here in Manila kasi may taping ako ng Pusong Ligaw. So it will be just us, our respective families and a few close friends from showbiz.”
