Charo on Kris: She’s welcome back anytime

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo (The Philippine Star) - September 23, 2016 - 12:00am

Although retired, Charo Santos-Concio continues to serve as Chief Content Officer (COO) and executive adviser of ABS-CBN, the company she headed for more than 30 years.

Through the time that Kris Aquino’s non-renewal of contract was being talked about until Kris signed up with Tony “Mr. T” Tuviera APT Productions (Mr. T co-manages her with Boy Abunda, with the latter in-charge of commercial contracts), Charo was mum, maybe because she was pre-occupied with her movie’s (Ang Babaeng Humayo [The Woman Who Left ]) participation at the filmfests in Venice and Toronto.

The other day, Funfare asked Charo about the (non)issue after her homecoming presscon at the ABS-CBN’s Dolphy Theater.

“Actually,” admitted Charo, “I texted her. I wish her all the best and thanked her for all the years that she has worked for ABS-CBN and I acknowledged that she has given so much relief and happiness, and delighted our viewers.”

Was Charo slighted (not really offended) by Kris’ decision? (According to reports, when her contract expired, Kris and ABS-CBN did meet a few times but the negotiation failed. Both sides didn’t reveal the reasons why.)

“Kahit na sino ang mag-decide umalis…like Aga (Muhlach), Sharon (Cuneta) and Willie (Revillame)…wala akong pagdaramdam, kasi importante kung saan sila masaya,” said Charo.

The “prodigal” Kapamilya (among them Aga and Sharon) are back. What if Kris decided to return to ABS-CBN, would Charo take her back?

“Of course, the doors of ABS-CBN are always open to people who want to work with us again. But you wait for the stars to align for it to happen. It’s not the decision of just one person. And, yes, Kris is welcome back anytime.”

Incidentally, Funfare sources said that Kris has not moved to GMA, her original home several years ago as co-host (with Lolit Solis, et al) of StarTalk, but since Mr. T is closely affiliated with GMA, will Kris eventually do Kapuso shows?

Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza (in one of their latest pictures): Not in a show with Kris Aquino?

In her social-media account, Kris wrote that she has started taping on Sept. 22, went on vacation with her sons Joshua and Bimby in Japan, and resumed taping on Sept. 29. For what show(s), she didn’t say, even if there are persistent rumors that she will be co-starring with Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza in a TV series. AlDub Nation is violently divided over that report, some of them accusing Kris of trying to ride on Alden and Maine’s popularity.

Funfare sources clarified that Kris is doing “something else” (can’t be revealed just yet).

As Kris once told Funfare, “Wait for me to surprise you!”

So, stay tuned!
