A date with Xian

Leah C. Salterio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Xian Lim is, no doubt, one of the hottest, young singer-actors in local showbiz today. Since he made his mark in the industry, he has definitely proven that he is not just a handsome face and great body. He exudes an unbounded and contagious love for everything true and beautiful, all reflecting in the way he carries himself and how he lives his life.

He started 2016 with a box-office hit, Everything About Her, which marked the first time that he worked with Star for All Seasons, Vilma Santos. He played the stubborn son of Vilma in the film, where he also starred with Angel Locsin.

To date, Xian is best remembered for playing a variety of roles both on TV and the movies. He started out his leading man break when he essayed the role of Andy Wu in My Binondo Girl, which marked his long-standing tandem with Kim Chiu. Then, he played Liam Lagdameo in Ina, Kapatid, Anak, Rocco in Bride For Rent, Alex Prieto in Bakit Di Ka Crush ng Crush Mo and recently, Macoy Sandoval in the top-rating primetime series, The Story of Us.

How the plot of his latest teleserye unfolds thrills and excites Xian no end. “We just finished Book 1, so we’re entering Book 2,” he offers. “There’s a bit of confusion. Everyone asks what’s the difference between the two books. I think Book 2 is the main turn of events. My character Macoy and Kim’s character Tin now have separate journeys in life. We will see in Book 2 how they will find their way back to each other. Book 2 is really different. The setting is still in the US, but there are plans of going back to El Nido, where the series started.”

In the music scene, Xian has released two studio albums — So It’s You and XL2. Away from the klieg lights, he is a passionate basketball player, having had a basketball scholarship from the University of the East.

On July 9, he is bracing himself for his first solo concert, #ADateWithXianLim, to be staged at the Kia Theater in Araneta Center. “I’m excited because it’s my first show wherein I’m handling everything,” Xian says of his forthcoming concert. “Hawak ko ‘yung buong show. I’m nervous, yes. But ito ‘yung matagal ko nang pinapangarap.”

He adds, “When I was starting out in showbiz, I told myself na sana mabigyan ako ng chance to go onstage and perform for people. Iba kasi ‘yung feeling na people come out to see you and support you. Then the applause when you sing and dance. Yes, sasayaw ako in this concert.

“As for the songs, I’m thinking about doing mostly ballads and classical music. We’re still finalizing the repertoire. But guaranteed, I’d give it my best. I’m even going to be in front of a grand piano. The Philharmonic Orchestra is going to be part of my show. The concert is supported by Star Records. For sure, Kim will come despite her busy schedule. Pending pa ‘yung other guests.”

After the concert, plans are afoot for Xian to release his third album. “We’re still finalizing the line-up of songs, but it’s definitely going to be out this year. My first two albums were all originals. For the third one, I’m more open to the compositions of other people. Pinapaubaya ko na sa kanila.”

Xian is a laid-back kind of guy, more often just in plain tees, although he likes doing some twists on the normal shirts and jeans combo by accessorizing. The epitome of a versatile, modern man, Xian has always opted for comfort with a twist — in everything he wears.

As the face of the Swiss luxury watch brand TechnoMarine since 2012, Xian embodies the brand’s “live deeper” philosophy, pursuing his passions on and off-screen. All these he does with dedication, creative nature and professional spirit. And Xian attests that TechnoMarine fits into his lifestyle beautifully.

“I’ve always believed that if you take a very simple outfit and accessorize, you can look good,” says Xian, who’s now endorsing TechnoMarine Cruise Jellyfish for Men. “That way, you stand out but there’s still an element of sophistication. TechnoMarine watches are perfect because you can dress up or dress down and it still makes a statement.”

He asserts, “I like how TechnoMarine watches are very versatile like me. I’m the type of person who can’t just stay put in one place. I’m always in need of something to do, so TechnoMarine is perfect for me.”

It is precisely for his well-rounded lifestyle and love for adventure that Xian has been chosen by TechnoMarine to be its brand ambassador. “Xian Lim likes pursuing his passions without fear,” says John Paul Paglinawan, brand manager for TechnoMarine. “This is a perfect fit to the spirit of the TechnoMarine brand.”

Blending innovation and spirited design, TechnoMarine unveils the latest in its popular Cruise series, the Cruise Jellyfish. Relaunched from one of the best-selling lines of the brand, the Cruise Jellyfish collection promises to be the most vibrant in style and functionality for both men and women.

The Cruise Jellyfish combines sporty functionality with elegance. Evoking a sportier and younger feel, the two-tone chronograph watch is both attractive and well-built, perfect for the younger generation, especially for the working and active millennial. Ideally like Xian who wants elegance, vibrancy and flexibility all in one watch.

Xian is part of a list of international endorsers for TechnoMarine, all of whom are known for their active lifestyles, including Spanish actress Monica Cruz, Taiwanese model Chin Hsi, Spanish model and actor Andres Velencoso and Slovakian model Ivana Vancova.
