Ben Farrales’ ‘Kagandahang Kayumanggi’

REMEMBER WHEN? - Danny Dolor - The Philippine Star

The Oct. 5, 1976 issue of Mr. & Ms. came up with a spread of Kagandahang Kayumanggi, a fashion show which highlighted the beauty of the Filipina. Beauty queens and Karilagan models wore the 72 outfits created by Ben Farrales, the dean of Filipino couturiers.

It was a dazzling collection by Farrales, including coat dresses, tunics, evening pajamas, Moroccan-inspired gowns, formal clothes in monochromatic colors and lastly Filipiniana.

Held at the Coral Ballroom of the Manila Hilton, Kagandahang Kayumanggi (Brown Beauty) was a fashion-dinner for a cause chaired by Mrs. Cristina Ponce Enrile for the benefit of the Mindanao earthquake victims.

Entertainment was provided by Pilita Corrales and Amado del Paraguay, Armida Siguion-Reyna and Chito Ponce Enrile. Emceed by Boots Anson-Roa. — RKC
