Family reveals cause of Elaine Cuneta's death

MANILA, Philippines – Elaine Cuneta, the mother of actress Sharon Cuneta, died of internal bleeding and complications arising from abdominal surgery, her family revealed in a statement. 

 

It was KC Concepcion, Sharon's daughter and Elaine's granddaughter, who confirmed the elder Cuneta's passing on Wednesday via her social media accounts.

According to the statement released by the Cuneta family, Elaine “was first confined for abdominal pains on September 2 and was in intensive care for over seven weeks.”

 

“The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of sympathy, love, and prayer support during their time of grief,” the statement further said. “They thank all the doctors and nurses who did the best they could to care for Mrs Cuneta these past few months.” 

 

“They are comforted by their faith and the certainty that she is in a good place, in the hands of her Creator – no pain, no sickness or weakness, and seeing Jesus face to face.”

 

The Cuneta family also asked for  privacy “as they mourn the loss of the beloved Mrs Cuneta.”

 

“The wake will be held at the Capilla Del Señor and Capilla Dela Virgen of Santuario de San Antonio Parish, McKinley Road, Makati City from November 6 to 11, 2014,” the statement added.

 

Sharon and KC have been open about the condition of Elaine the past few weeks. 

 

In a recent television interview, KC expressed her concern over her grandmother's health condition. “Alam ko she's struggling and fighting to be well. Pero she's doing well. I just miss her lang talaga and I love you so much Mita,” KC said.

 

On a latest Instagram post, she said: “My first 6 hours without you is so tough. I miss you so much Mita. I can't believe I won't be able to make you 'Gigil' anymore. I miss your skin, your stories, your scent, your expressions, your voice, your quotable quotes, holding your beautiful hands until we fall asleep. Thank you for everything. Grandmothers are a GIFT please let them feel special & treasure them while you have them.”
