Maja stages first major concert

Yugel Losorata - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Maja Salvador has proven her worth as a singer now that her debut album Believe is a certified gold record. That’s just half a year after she was signed up by Ivory Music & Video last December.

On that note, it appears logical for her to stage her first major concert titled The Legal Performer on July 12 at the Music Museum.

During a gathering to promote her latest accomplishment, Maja, who just wrapped up her ABS-CBN teleserye The Legal Wife, shared, “One of my motivations are the reactions of the people who get surprised because they know me as someone who acts and dances. Para sa akin hindi po masamang mag-try at may bagong patunayan sa tao. I want to prove that I’m also a singer and that I can also sing.”

Maja’s debut album aptly titled Believe contains six pop ditties led by the single Dahan-Dahan which topped the iTunes and radio charts just a month after its release early last March. Her album tour continues in selected SM Malls and provincial festivities.

Such frenetic phase of success may not surprise music purists likely to undervalue the worth of a first-time singer backed by a big fan base developed through teleserye exposures and variety show dance numbers.

Yet, Maja feels she has something to say about her love for the craft which brought her to this new adventure. “Sobrang mahal ko po ang music. Kahit naliligo at nagme-make up ako, may music akong kasama to energize me,” she expressed.

The Dance Princess is taking voice lessons from Annie Quintos (of The CompanY fame). Her album was produced and arranged by Jonathan Ong of the now highly-regarded Sonic State Audio Studios.

Believe also comprises the track Halikana which features rap sensation Abra, along with her covers of familiar tunes Wala Na Bang Pag-ibig and Urong-Sulong.

She even helped write the lyrics of the closing track Buong Gabi, which has Project Pinas as guest artist.

“The first time I heard it on the radio, I was speechless. I found it hard to believe,” she recalled upon hearing her single played out on air.

Well, Maja’s reaction showed she’s one putting high premium on her singing career, as opposed to having it as just an added attraction to her list of accomplishments.
