MANILA, Philippines – Many were surprised when actress Alex Gonzaga was introduced as one of the housemates of “Pinoy Big Brother All In,” the latest edition of ABS-CBN's long-running reality show.

Alex, originally introduced as a co-host of PBB's afternoon program “Uber,” joins 17 housemates. Whereas previous seasons of the show had separate editions for the regular, teenager, and celebrity housemates, “Pinoy Big Brother All In” features all three types of contestants.

The younger sister of Pinoy Big Brother main host Toni Gonzaga is not the only celebrity inside the Big Brother house; other housemates this season include 17-year-old ABS-CBN young actress Jane Oineza and former collegiate volleyball player Michelle Gumabao.

Joining them are Nichole Baranda, the teenage daughter of model-host Phoemela Baranda. Twins Fourth and Fifth Pogotan, meanwhile, are brothers of GMA-7 actress Chariz Solomon. Gumabao also has a showbiz connection—she is the sister of ABS-CBN young actor Marco Gumabao and the daughter of former actor Dennis Roldan.

Many netizens criticized “Pinoy Big Brother All In”for choosing contestants with showbiz contestants since this would mean the “regular” housemates may have to compete with contestants with an existing fan base for text votes.

The hashtag #PBBScripted became a trending topic on Twitter during the show's premiere. Another popular Twitter hashtag, #PBBBawalAngPangitEdition, hit the show's decision to choose good-looking contestants. But many fans of the show defended “Pinoy Big Brother All In” on social media as well.
