Rihanna, UNICEF launch ‘There for the Philippines’ campaign

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Rihanna and UNICEF has launched the "There for the Philippines" campaign, which aims to help raise funds for the survivors of super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).

The UNICEF project aims to provide "long-term relief efforts" for the children and their families who were gravely affected by the super typhoon.

In the campaign poster released by UNICEF, Rihanna was quoted as saying, “Millions of kids are struggling in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan. Together, we can help them rebuild their lives. I’m here for the children of the Philippines. Are you?”

Aside from donating, the campaign can also be used to send out messages as to how people could donate or what are the necessities needed by the victims.

The funds will be used in building new and safe structures where the families and children could live, and where they could they continue their studies.

Aside from Rihanna, actress Vanessa Hudgens, Women’s National Basketball Association player Skylar Diggins, and Major League Baseball player Robinson Cano also support the campaign.

More than 10 million people were affected, 4 million of which were displaced, by the super typhoon that struck the Visayas last November 8.

The government has counted more than 5,000 deaths and more than 1,700 more remained missing.
