JC de Vera: Beautiful, hot and a fine actor

-

MANILA, Philippines - Two magazine surveys included JC de Vera on their lists of “most beautiful” stars and “hottest” men in showbiz. But aside from being beautiful and hot, JC (Juan Carlo) is, more important, a fine actor. Professional, versatile, hardworking.

JC gets the biggest break of his career via TV5’s Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum, airing mid-September, opposite Jasmine Curtis Smith. Early on, the actor expressed his wish to star in an action project either on TV or the big screen. But while Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum is primarily action, it has dramatic, romantic and comic elements, all of which JC does well.

For the Hoodlum role, JC prepared physically and mentally, building up those muscles and watching how tough guys — some of whom are his friends — act.

Actually, the Hoodlum character, portrayed twice in the movies by Robin Padilla, isn’t bad. He has a good heart, but circumstances forced him to be a pretty thief. But he remains gallant to the ladies and kind to the lowly.

JC is billed as TV5’s one and only prince, a regular in its three shows: Lokomoko (comedy), Hey, It’s Saberday (musical-variety) and soon Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum (action-drama). Much earlier, TV5 gave JC his very own drama special, where the actor proved he was equal to any role, be it light or serious. The feedback was so good that instead of the usual five episodes the 5-Star Special became eight episodes.

In one episode, JC played a boxer and he recalls being beaten black and blue during the fight scene. But it was worth it as he merited an acting nomination from the Star Awards.

JC also topbilled with Danita Paner the sitcom for TV5 My Driver Sweet Lover, where he proved his talent in comedy, throwing those punchlines and reacting to hilarious scenes.

A product of Colegio de San Agustin, JC has showbiz roots. His mother is the first cousin of Boots Anson-Roa (from Bicol), while his father is related to Romeo Vasquez and Luis Alandy (of Quezon).

Before signing up with TV5, JC was a GMA contract artist. His big screen credits are Hating Kapatid, Shake, Rattle & Roll, Tiyanak, White Lady, My Best Friend’s Girlfriend and Mano Po.

At 25, JC looks forward to even bigger and better roles on television and in the movies. As always, he will work long and hard to give his best in those roles. Yes, JC is beautiful and hot — and even better a fine actor.
