It's all work & no play for Angel

24/7 (DAY IN THE LIFE) - Bot and Don -

It’s all work and no play for Angel Locsin even the love month is just around the corner. She always has a full schedule ahead of her. Even though TV, movie and endorsement work is tiring, the Suzuki endorser never forgets to wear her angelic signature smile on and off cam. Her warmth rubs off on those who work with her.

“Few years ago, I tried to drive (and do) a motor cross,” Angel talks about her penchant for driving and “daring” projects. “I don’t know. I’m a thrill seeker. The feeling is different when you do something challenging and something unusual. But I’m not saying that if it is dangerous, I will do it. Of course, I always think of and consider my own safety and I have a family. Perhaps, I just do it because I (simply) want it.”

Hands down, Angel is Suzuki’s female choice for its campaign. She is the face of Suzuki Skydrive 125 which mirrors the actress’ “tough feminine allure.” The Skydrive has edgy and moderm design with large multi reflector headlamps, sporty instrument panel and convenient flat floor board.

“The skills should be there,” says Angel. “If you can’t drive, don’t do it. Safety is important to me.”

What is Angel’s take on the government’s initiative to hire women as bus drivers going around major thoroughfares?

“Why just now?,” she replies. “Times are hard because jobs are few. Women are limited to what they can do. We have this thinking that this should be for women and that should be for men. We should be open (to possibilities). Ang worry ko lang diyan sana lang hindi mabastos yung mga kababaihan. Minsan kasi hindi pa rin talaga nawawala sa atin yung — ah, babae yan, mahina yan, ah hindi ako makikinig sa’yo kasi babae ka. Sana mawala yung ganung mentality ng iba.”

Among the blessings that Angel also counts is the high ratings Imortal has been receiving. Book Two is coming its way as soon as the ABS-CBN primetime show closes.

“I’m happy because I never thought the (warm) reception the viewing public has given us and the way they embrace us,” shares Angel. “At first, people compared (the show) to Twilight and that we’re a copycat. As the TV series progresses, it has made its own identity and people realize that it is different. The story is very Filipino. Wala namang naka-copyright na story tungkol sa vampires and werewolves. We’re happy and proud. We pray that people will still support us.”

Below, Angel gives us a quick look at her hectic schedule:

Monday, Wednesday and Friday — It’s my Imortal days. I wake up early for my 7 a.m. call time. Then I’m on the set and shoot some scenes. We wrap up at 3 a.m. They usually ask us to stay some more and extend the shooting. I’m not into vegetables but I try to train my taste buds. I now eat salads and fresh vegetables. I’m carnivorous and a fruit person.

Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday — They are my movie days. From the set of Imortal, I go straight to Tanay. I catch up with my sleep in my van.

I’m a Twitter addict. I’m logging as much as possible for updates about me. I do that after work and during my free time. Before, I didn’t like the idea of twitting or having my own account because of privacy issue. I created an account for Red Cross. When Typhoon Ondoy hit the country, I used my account to reach more people to ask for assistance from our kababayan. From there, I have started to incorporate Twitter with my personal life, work and Red Cross.

Sunday — It’s my family and church day. I just stay at home with my family and friends. I go to Victory (Fellowship). I pray for my faith. I believe that you can pray wherever you are. I can pray at home or I go to Baclaran and light a candle. I also squeeze in my other commitments. Jerry Donato
