DepEd taps DOST for Sulong EduKalidad
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education is tapping the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), with its expertise in operating the country’s science high schools, in the DepEd program to raise the quality of education in public schools.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones said the DOST would be a partner as the DepEd pursued the implementation of the Sulong EduKalidad, its national reform plan to raise the quality of education, which agency officials launched recently in the Zamboanga Peninsula.
Before the Sulong EduKalidad regional launch, Briones graced last week the inauguration of eight infrastructure projects of the Philippine Science High School-Zamboanga Peninsula Region Campus (PSHS-ZRC) in Barangay Cogon, Dipolog City.
The PSHS-ZRC is one of the regional campuses of the DOST PSHS System.
Representing President Duterte, Briones commended the DOST for being supportive of DepEd’s quest for quality education.
“DOST has always been a great partner, adviser and helper, especially now that we are pivoting from access to quality education. We always work together in many joint endeavors related to education,” she said.
The education chief hopes for more DOST collaboration to ensure improvement in the Filipino learners’ mathematical and scientific literacy.
