Webmasters, Jaguars fight for No.3 spot

Emmanuel B. Villaruel - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters and the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars clash in an important match in the 2022 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) men’s basketball tournament today at the Cebu Coliseum.

At stake in their 5 p.m. duel is the No.3 spot going into the semifinal round.

The Webmasters already secured a place in the Final Four with a 5-4 win-loss record following their 95-77 rout of the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats last Thursday night.

But the Kernn Sesante-mentored Webmasters still need to tame the Jaguars to claim the No.3 seeding and avoid a semis showdown with the top-ranked University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers.

That’s also the goal of the Jaguars, so fans could expect a dogfight between the two protagonists.

Meanwhile, the City of Bogo Science and Arts Academy (CBSAA) Trailblazers of coach Leode Garcia will shoot for a historic 9-0 sweep as they take on UCLM in the 12:30 p.m. opener of a heavy quadruple-header.

In the other juniors division games, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers will try to keep their flickering semis hopes alive as they go up against the University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors at 2 p.m., while the defending champion Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles will lock up horns with the UC Baby Webmasters at 3:30 pm.

The Baby Panthers dropped to 3-4 after bowing to the Baby Lancers two nights ago while the Baby Warriors won only once in eight games.

On the other hand, the Magis Eagles and the Baby Webmasters fight for the solo second place. They are currently tied with idential 6-1 win-loss cards.
