Webmasters eye crucial win; Trailblazers target 7-0 mark

Emmanuel B. Villaruel - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters are gunning for a crucial victory to bolster their semifinal chances in the 2022 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) basketball season.

But it’s a tall order for them as they tackled the league-leading of the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers at 5 p.m. today at the Cebu Coliseum.

Both sides are coming off stinging setbacks in their previous assignments.

The Webmasters fell prey anew to the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, 77-80, while the Lancers suffered their first defeat at the hands of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 56-59.

While the Lancers are already ensured of a Final Four spot with a 7-1 win-loss record, the Webmasters need to squeeze their way to the penultimate stage of the two-month tournament.

With a 3-4 slate, the Webmasters of coach Kernn Sesante must hurdle at least two of their last three games in the double round elimination to keep their semis hopes alive.

After the Lancers, they will battle against the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats on Thursday, November 24, before wrapping up their campaign opposite the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars on November 26.

Meanwhile, the Leode Garcia-mentored City of Bogo Science and Arts Academy (CBSAA) Trailblazers will try to their stretch their perfect start to 7-0 as they lock up horns with the 3-3 UV Baby Lancers at 3:30 pm.

In the other juniors division duel, the listless USC Baby Warriors will take on UCLM in the 12:30 p.m. opener, while the USPF Baby Panthers will collide with the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons in the second game at 2 pm.
