“Battle of Champions” begins
CEBU, Philippines — After winning a historic back-to-back championships, the Consolacion Sarok Weavers train their sights on a much bigger bounty - the national title.
The newly-crowned Visayas champions will kick off their quest for that lofty goal as they tackle the Mindanao titlist Davao Occidental Dreamers at the start of the first ever Pilipinas Super League (PSL) 21 Under National Finals billed as “Battle of Champions” today at the Cebu City Sports Institute (CCSI) in Barangay Sawang Calero.
Game time is set at 6 pm.
The Sarok Weavers are seeking a repeat of their 76-72 come-from-behind victory over the Dreamers in the opener of the PSL U21- VisMin leg last July 7 at the Toledo City Megadome.
In that match, the Sarok Weavers courageously rallied from 16 points down to stun the Mindanao visitors.
Team captain Paulo Dalumpines and Visayas MVP Matthew Flores are again expected to be at the cornerstone of Consolacion’s campaign together with the likes of Keaton Taburnal, Rovello Robles, Froiland Maglasang, and Dave Paulo, Christian Jay Alilin, and Kin Dayday.
The Dreamers, on the other hand, will count the most from their top gunners in Marvin Samonte, Rainer Maga, Jude Bagay, Limuel Tampus, Lawrence Angeles, and Kyle Jamora as they seek vengeance against the Sarok Weavers.
The winner of Consolacion-Davao duel will take a one day rest while the loser will face a must-win situation against the Luzon titleholders Pampanga Delta on Saturday, September 3.
