Sarok Weavers rebound, hold off CDO Kingfishers

Emmanuel B. Villaruel - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The defending champion Consolacion Sarok Weavers readily bounced back from their stinging setback at the hands of the Bukidnon Cowboys with a 74-67 drubbing of Sealcor Cagayan de Oro Kingfishers in the 2022 Pilipinas Super League (PSL) Under 21-VisMin leg last Saturday night at the Cordova Sports Complex in Cordova, Cebu.

Team captain Paolo Dalumpines dropped 22 points on top of four rebounds and five assists to almost singlehandedly carry the Sarok Weavers to their sixth victory in seven starts.

Dave Paulo was the other double-digit scorer with 10 points and five boards for the Sarok Weavers, who quickly get back on the right track after seeing their five-game winning streak come to a screeching halt.

The Sarok Weavers nearly collapsed after surging ahead by 10 points, 70-60, in the final three minutes as the Kingfishers staged a daring 7-0 counterattack to come threateningly close at 67-70 on a crucial 3-pointer by Kent Gelogo  with only 52 seconds left to play.

In the ensuing sequence, however, Dalumpines calmly sank a pair of pressure-packed free throws before Froiland Maglasang made an alley-oop shot with 16 ticks remaining to wrap up things up for the Sarok Weavers.

Paul Redondo cashed in 18 points, nine rebounds and three assists but his efforts went in vain as the Kingfishers slumped to their third consecutive defeat after an impressive 4-0 start.
