Sex before running

SPORTS EYE - Raffy Uytiepo - The Freeman

A lot of questions has been asked whether it’s advisable to have sex before the competition. Although scientific research on pre-exercise, sex is limited, it has been the practiceof athletes to abstain from sex before a big game. The great Muhammad Ali for, instance, avoided sex for weeks before a big fight but it doesn’t mean all athletes should be self-imposed celibates. Loren Cardain, a professor of exercise psychology at the Colorado State University, however, said that a study  conducted at her lab found that performance after intercourse is not compromised. The men in the experiment were evaluated for grip strength, coordination, max V02, balance reaction time and lateral movement before and after sexual activity and these values were the same after sex. Therefore, based on these results, pre-race sex is no hindrance to marathon performance. However, it’s  more a psychological effect on runners in the Philippines when it comes to this matter.  One runner swore “mukorog ang akong tuhod”during training after a night of bedroom action. Basketball players shared the same option, but Grete Waitze of Norway, nine-time New York City Marathon champion, revealed she once had sex a few hours before a race and still won. In fact she said it relaxes and gets the tension out. The bottom line then is that you’ll run well if you’ve indulged on or abstained from sex the night before. However, here’s a little warning sex with someone new may be so pressure-packed that it will drain you emotionally therefore affecting your performance, so better avoid it before a race and save it for some kind of post-race celebration, much more if you’re among the top finishers, maybe we call it some sort of reward.

Naughty Reporter

After running 42 kilometers, a lady reporter once asked “naa pa ka ibuga?”.  I told her she could find out for herself.  If we could run 26 miles then she’s in for the battle of her life.  Did she find out? Your guess is as good as mine.

Aleksander Lesun

Was born in Soviet Union in 1988 three years before its collapse.  Lesun represented Russia in 2009 and won 14 World Championship medals for Russia in Modern Pentathlon.  In 2016, he became Olympic champion in Rio, Brazil.  In early 2022, Lesun 34, decided never to compete for Russia again in protest for its invasion of Ukraine. Meanwhile, tennis world’s number six Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev continue playing under a neutral flag.
