TESDA-7 friendly chessfest a success
CEBU, Philippines — The 1st Friendly Chess Tournament of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-7 held last March 9 at the agency’s regional office was a big success.
The one-day tilt participated in by a total of 16 TESDA personnel, staff, and trainees was spearheaded by TESDA-Central Visayas Regional Director Gamaliel B. Vicente, Jr. who celebrated his birthday on that day.
A decorated chess player himself, RD Gam figured in a simultaneous exhibition with some of the competitors before the tournament, which aims to foster camaraderie among fellow players and the same time promote awareness of the sport that helps improve visual memory and spatial ability as well as develop problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Daniel Cinco pocketed P3,000 for coming out as champion. Christano Cardeño and Loren Ali G. Cinco placed second and third, respectively, while Joshua Encabo wound up fourth.
RD Gam hopes that the activity has inspired the audience to play chess as means to develop interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. — EBV
