Bornea destroys Obbadi in three rounds

CEBU, Philippines — Another all-Filipino world title fight looms in the horizon.

This after the undefeated super flyweight contender Jade “Hurricane” Bornea of General Santos City’s Sanman Gym scored a spectacular third-round knockout of the IBF ranked No.3 but relatively unknown Moroccan-Italian Mohammed “Maraviglia” Obbadi in their IBF eliminator yesterday at the Arena Jose Sulaiman in Monterrey, México.

Aside from stretching his perfect record to 17-0 now spiked with 11KOs, the 26-year-old Bornea also earned a mandatory shot at the IBF super flyweight throne currently held his countryman Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas (33-1, 22KOs) .

After taking control of the action from the get go, Bornea launched a furious body attack capped by a crushing left uppercut to the midsection that sent Obbadi crashing into the canvas for good at the 1:25 mark of round three.

As he storms to the top spot in the IBF rankings, Bornea trains his sights next on Ancajas.

But for the all-Pinoy championship bout to happen, Ancajas must beat first Argentina’s Fernando Daniel Martinez in his upcoming defense most likely on February 26 in the United States.

Obaddi, meanwhile, saw his nine-fight winning streak come to a screeching halt and dropped to 22-2 with 13KOs.
