Sharpshooter Barro to focus on shooting and for DLSU

CEBU, Philippines —  While in Manila both as a student and athlete, Cebu’s top shooter Roygbiv “Roy” Barro always finds time to go back to his hometown Cebu and be with his family.

But as he tries to adopt with the new normal amid the pandemic, Barro made a sudden change on his routine.

This time, Barro decided to stay in Manila for a long time so he could focus more on his career as a practical shooter with the Laguna-Practical Shooters Group (LAG-PSG), and as a football varsity player of De La Salle University (DLSU).

“I decided to stay in Manila not really for good but for a long period of time because I want to concentrate on my shooting, football, and studies” shared Barro. “Before, I usually go home to Cebu every after event and because of that, my training will always be disrupted. I have to make some adjustments.”

Barro said one of the underlying reasons for his decision is the plan of De La Salle University to hold a bubble for the football team for their training preparations for the upcoming UAAP Season 84 that will push through in February 2022.

Before keeping his hands busy at the firing range, the 21-year-old Barro first fell in love with football. He first learned the rudiments of the sport at Don Bosco and then attained a certain measure of success as one of the top football players in Cebu being an ex-Palarong Pambansa representative for Central Visayas.

“Football is really a sport that is closest to my heart,” said Barro, a one-time awardee of the Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC).

Aside from bracing for football duty at La Salle where he is a consistent Dean’s Lister, Barro is also girding up for various shooting competitions ahead, most notable among them are the Grandmaster’s Challenge Cup and the Bolo Cup, which many Top Sharpshooters and Champions in the country will participate.

“I have a lot of things to prepare for,” said Barro, who came out No.22 overall among the 149 top sharpshooters in the Philippines during the 24th Battle of the Gun Clubs in December last year in Marikina City. “By staying in Manila for long, I hope this will give me a stable foundation towards achieving all my goals in life.”
