CEBU, Philippines — The Lapu-Lapu City Naki Warriors notched a resounding double victory, the Toledo City Trojans saw their hot streak come to an end, while the Cordova Dutchess Dagami Warriors and the Cebu City Machers suffered a double whammy in the resumption of inter-division play in the 1st Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) online tournament played last Wednesday night on lichess platform.

Powered by National Master Merben Roque, Aldwin Daculan, Bryle Arellano, Cristy Cabungcag, Odilon Badilles, Romeo Resuera, Neil Adrian Gilig, and Kraig Quinain, the Naki Warriors slayed the Pasig City King Pirates, 11.5-9.5, and then tamed Quezon City Simba’s Tribe, 12-9.

With its back-to-back triumphs, Lapu-Lapu remained at sixth place in the Southern Conference standings with a 10-11 win-loss record.

On the other hand, the Trojans of playing co-team owner Atty. Jeah Jean Gacang, team manager FA Felix Poloyapoy Jr., skipper Bonn Rainauld Tibod, International Master Rico Mascariñas, NMs Rommel Ganzon and Rogelio Enriquez Jr., Ronald Ganzon, Richard Natividad, Glicerio Pardillo Jr., Christopher Tubalado, and Jinky Catulay, vanquished the Cagayan Kings, 13.5-7.5.

However, the Trojans’ spectacular six-game winning roll met a sudden red stop after they absorbed a stinging 3-18 loss at the hands of the  formidable Laguna Heroes squad bannered by Grandmasters Rogelio Barcenilla and John Paul Gomez, and FIDE Masters Austin Jacob Literatus and Jose Efren Bagamasbad.

Still, the Trojans are at fourth spot in the South bracket with a 12-8 slate behind the Negros Kingsmen and the Camarines Soaring Eagles, both with 18-3 cards, and the Iloilo Kisela Knights with a 17-4 mark.

The other Cebu contenders slumped to consecutive defeats.

Cordova bowed to the Manila Indios Bravos, 9-12, and then to the Cavite Spartans, 4.5-16.5, while Cebu City stumbled against the Spartans, 7.5-13.5, before getting subdued by Isabela Knight Raiders, 9.5-11.5. The Dagami Warriors fell to 6-15 while the Machers dropped further to 4-17. — EBV
