Conor McGregor says talks of Pacquiao fight gaining ground

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  UFC star Conor McGregor revealed that talks of potential fight against Filipino ring legend Manny Pacquiao are intensifying and that it could come “sooner, rather than later”.

McGregor himself declared that after he takes care of his business against Dustin Poirier in his UFC comeback on January 23, Pacquiao will definitely be next in his crosshairs.

In a report by Russian news channel rt.com, McGregor revealed to The Mac Life that behind-the-scenes discussions for a possible showdown with the eight-division world champion Pacquiao are steadily gaining ground.

And McGregor indicated that his return in the boxing scene will most likely happen sooner than expected.

“I know the talks are intensifying for this year,” said McGregor.

“So I am excited for a Manny Pacquiao bout, and it’s looking like it will take place this year. What time this year, I’m not sure. We’re going to have to have some good discussions with Dana and with the guys and the UFC after (the Poirier fight) and see where it goes, what’s there, what do we want. I am open to it all. I am ready for it all,” he added.

McGregor first ventured in boxing back in 2017 against American Floyd Mayweather, who stopped him in the 10th round.

Though on the losing end, McGregor obviously loved the experience that he wants to do it again, this time against Pacquiao.

That is something that the 42-year-old Pacquiao is looking forward to.

Pacquiao, who hasn’t fought since mauling Keith Thurman in July 2019, announced recently that he wants to experience fighting a mixed martial artist in a move that further drum up a megabout with McGregor. — EBV
