Getting Priorities Straight

An orthodontist once said in a lecture that there are three things that can make a person truly happy: 1- donating time, 2- being grateful and 3- and be a giver. I always make it a point to do those three things in my everyday life.

Three days ago, a high school classmate asked me through social media if I could share my blessings for the people working behind the Misa de Gallo. He showed me his donation of a box of siopao and a sodas. While I would happily dole out my contribution, I told him that out of principle, I’d hold back my donations for now.

Last week, the IATF ordered all cyclists should wear face shields when riding out. This order is the most ridiculous order since Interior Secretary ordered that motorcyclists wear back shields to prevent the transmission of Covid. I was so dumbfounded by the stupidity of the idea, but I think it prevented people, especially those who were not frontliners, from going out in those early, dark, days. It was only later that I understood the method to the madness.

But facemask is very different from backshields since it covers the most important organ of our body that we need when we drive our bicycles- the eyes. The face shields can easily be covered with fog during breathing and affect our eyes. The face shield, because of its flimsy attachment to the face, can easily be blown away even by a slight breeze or even if you speed up!

I don’t know if Press Secretary Harry Roque even knows how to pedal around the neighborhood or do cardio WO’s. But if he does, he should know that it is impossible to inhale and exhale through a surgical mask while exercising. It’s akin to drowning!

Yet, on top of the mask, we are being now ordered to wear face shields. Is the government trying to make its people brain-damaged by depriving us of oxygen?

FYI, if a brain is deprived of oxygen for more than 5-10 minutes, it will lead to a reversible injury to the brain.

Conspiracy Theorist have said that that the Far Right was placing placing chips on the Covid vaccine to trace us. How about the government trying to imbecile-lized the Filipinos with a face shield?

On the other hand, look no further at the Misa de Gallo, were the faithful are shoulder to shoulder. You can see the old and the young and the in between - they are super spreader events! And what is the IATF doing about it?

What’s wrong with attending mass on line? There’s a joke going around social media stating: “You attended and completed the Misa de Gallo, but during the Noche Buena, you lost your sense of taste”.

That is why I am not making a donation. Ineptness knows no bounds.
