Top Rank’s Arum to pit Crawford vs Pacquiao or Spence next year
CEBU, Philippines — Undefeated WBO welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (36-0, 27KOs) is yet to defend his title against British challenger Kell Brook (39-2, 27KOs) this Sunday but Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has already something in store for Crawford next year.
In a report by Cameron Wolfe of ESPN, Arum looks forward to pitting Crawford against eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao or WBC/IBF welterweight titlist Errol Spence Jr. in the first half of 2021.
“The next fight is going to be, as far as I can control things, we’re not going to fool around, it’s going to be Pacquiao or Spence,” said Arum, who promotes Crawford.
Arum claimed he previously has a deal in place for Crawford vs Pacquiao to take place in Qatar but local officials withdrew their support due to the global pandemic.
Once the situation improves, the Harvard-educated lawyer said he would love to revisit the deal as a Crawford-Pacquiao showdown is foremost in his mind.
For that to happen though, Crawford must take care first of his business against Brook on November 15 (Phl time) at the MGM Grand bubble in Las Vegas, Nevada.
