National Master Roque tops ‘Stay Home’ chessfest
CEBU, Philippines — National Master Merben Roque ruled the first ever “Stay at Home” Online Blitz Tournament played in Lichess last Thursday.
Roque and Rhenzi Kyle Sevillano were actually tied with 65 points each at the end of the two-hour tilt organized by International Master Kim Steven Yap of the Cebu School of Chess but Roque went on to pocket the P3,000 top prize by virtue of a higher tiebreaker.
Michael Joseph Pagaran placed third with 57 points, while Eden Diano and Allan Pason finished fourth and fifth with 56 and 55 points, respectively.
Rounding up the top 10 were Bryle Arellano, Rommel Ganzon, Bonn Rainauld Tibod, Godfrey Villamor, and Remegio Galenzona. Up next is another online tournament organized by the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) on May 16. EBV
