Sports center still open to the public

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Sports Center remains open to the public although some activities are being stopped while the entire province of Cebu is under community quarantine.

Following the executive order of the Cebu City government in line with the preventive measures on the COVID-19 pandemic, CCSC will be operational in a shortened period, from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. only until the quarantine period is over.

Training in gymnastics though has been temporarily halted while belly dancing sessions ended yesterday.

Zumba and aerobics, on the other hand, will be until this week only until further notice as everyone has been advised to stay out on a large crowd.

The swimming pool and oval are still open. Before a swimmer can use the pool, they must take a shower first for proper sanitation.

For the oval, joggers are observing social distancing already.

Some courts of the covered gym are also available for use, but those who are interested need to ask the CCSC management first just to make sure it is not occupied by the police force at the moment.

“Gigamit ning holding area ang gym ron pero naa pay courts na magamit. But basin in a few days from now mas mudaghan pa ning mga police dinhi,” said CCSC manager Jundel Bontuyan.

Bontuyan explained that they need to keep the sports facility open as there are some Cebuanos especially those under rehabilitation who needs it. Also, they need to generate income for their staff aside from being used as a holding area for the PNP.

“Kung magsira na pud mi ron, wala mi ikasweldo sa among tawo diri plus gihimo pud ning holding area ron sa mga police who are tapped to help in enforcing peace and order during the quarantine period from March 16 to April 14,” said Bontuyan.

Those who want to use the CCSC, however, are advised to be responsible enough and keep themselves sanitized at all times.
