Didal pulls out of Asian Championship
CEBU, Philippines — Cebuana skateboarding sensation Margielyn Didal withdrew her participation in the 2020 Millenial Asian Skateboarding Championships in Singapore this week to focus on bigger events with hopes of boosting her bid for the Tokyo Olympics.
The team of Didal decided to cancel her entry in the ASC so that her training in the United States will not be interrupted and also to keep her safe from the coronavirus pandemic.
Though the ASC is also an Olympic qualifier, it offers smaller points compared to the Street League Skateboarding World Tour in Las Vegas and the Skate Battle in Peru.
Unfortunately, both the Las Vegas and Peru events scheduled next month have been cancelled also due to the COVID-19.
Despite the cancellation of several Olympic qualifying events though, Didal’s chances to make it to the Olympics remains bright.
This as Didal, the 2019 Athlete of the Year by the Sportswriters Association of Cebu, is currently ranked No.14 in the world and the top 20 will qualify for the quadrennial games.
