Over virus fears CVIRAA Meet put on hold again

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  For the third time, this year’s Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet supposedly set on March 21-28 in Dumaguete City has been put on hold indefinitely.

The decision was done together with the postponement of the PalarongPambansa this summer in Marikina.

“The suspension is in accordance with the national directive that suspends all scheduled national and regional events involving students such as the Regional Meet due to the Covid-19,” part of the memo from DepEd-7’s Salustiano Jimenez reads.

The other day, new cases of Covid-19 has been announced by the Department of Health including a local transmission.

Last month, the Department of Education’s Central Office has announced the suspension of national events that has large crowds due to the corona virus scare but has allowed regional meets and other local events to push through provided that it will get the go signal from local health authorities.

But last Sunday night, the office of DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones announced that it is again suspending all scheduled national and regional events involving students from different localities that include the Palaro and regional meets.

The fate of CVIRAA and other regional meets as well as the Palaro in Marikina will depend on the go signal from the DOH, DepEd and other national agencies monitoring the deadly virus.
