Siargao to host Dapa 8080 triathlon

CEBU, Philippines —  Cebuano triathletes brace for another challenge in the inaugural staging of the Dapa 8080 triathlon at the Dapa boulevard in Dapa,Siargao, Surigao del Norte on June 13.

Dapa mayor Elizabeth “Abeth” Matugas led the launching of the event at the Cebu Country Club yesterday and she invited all Cebuano triathletes to take part on their event.

Dapa is the entry point of Siargao and the premier center of commerce and economic center of the island.

“We need your help for Dapa to be popular.Though it is the economic center of Siargao,but has been left behind in terms of popularity as a tourism destination that is why we are promoting it now under me with a triathlon event,”said Mayor Matugas.

Triathletes will be one of the first to enjoy the newly constructed boulevard, white sand beaches, rubberized sports complex and a scenic route on the bike course.

Mayor Matugas also said that they will be offering packages for the participants and other guests so they will not only get to enjoy the route, but the entire tourist spots if Dapa.

This event also came out timely on the part of the organizing Cornerstone group as they needed a new venue to hold triathlon events.

The Dapa event is part of the 8080 actiob of events that Cornerstone is organizing.The other two being Bogo and San Remigio.

This is the first time that Cornerstone is organizing an event in Mindanao that makes them excited about it said Cornerstone’s Steve Maniquis.
