DepEd postpones CVIRAA, PRISAA

CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) is postponing indefinitely two major regional athletics meet this month.

The DepEd management committee has announced the suspension of several activities as the country heightens its safety measures against the novel corona virus (NcoV).

Aside from the athletic meets, also suspended are national activities that involve learners and teachers including jamborees, contests and field trip as well as those supposed official travel to China and other affected countries.

Although DepEd’s announcement regarding the staging of regional activities may seek clearance from the Department of Health, CVIRAA Meet have already been postponed in Dumaguete especially that the reported first person who died of NcoV in the country traveled in the said place.

Preparation and training of athletes especially from the perennial champion Cebu City, still continues, but DepEd-Cebu City will be calling for a meeting with the coaches to discuss on this matter.

Meanwhile, the PRISAA-VII regional meet that was supposed to take place this weekend at the Cebu City Sports Center, but all the teams have already been informed of the postponement.

DepEd keeps close monitoring on the NcoV continues and weekly updates will be done as to when the suspension of the abovementioned activities will be lifted or extended.
